Happy independence day to my home, Cyprus 🇨🇾
66 years independent today. Proud to be Cypriot and proud to build from here
Still the best place on earth to live and work
Shopify is literally a monopoly and it makes zero sense to me why. Proves that people will pay anything as long as you promote your pricing right and make their lives easier
I want to start a brand. I go to shopify. Basic plan s $39 a month. Fine, cheaper than building any of this myself
Then payments. Shopify Payments takes 2.9% plus 30 cents an order. On a 25 dollar order, thats 4.1%, not 2.9%. Fine, everyone takes a cut.
Except Shopify Payments is also the thing that holds your payouts for 90 days with no explanation and nobody to call.
So maybe I use my own provider. Shopify charges me 2% for that. On top of whatever my provider charges. Call it 5%.
Fuck it. They eat when I eat.
Now I need the store to actually work. Reviews, upsells, an email flow, something to stop the fraud orders. Four apps before I've sold anything. Another $150 a month
So: 190 a month, 5% of every order, and I havent spent a cent on ads yet
This is the cost of starting. Before a single order. Before you even know if the thing works
@dbtha1nonly Ofc you need money to start a business
This is about shopify getting all the exom guys without really competing with anyone
While still being “expensive” to an extent
@kylebigley Never said it didnt lol
Im just surprised that the gap from shopify to the second biggest competitor is so big still in 2026.
And i just explained that shopify aint the perfect platform either. So was just wondering how are they keep taking such a big piece of the pie
A custom store can take days and have week foundations
There are a lot of moving parts on running store( products, discounts, invoices/receipts, emails, flows, etc.)
Shopify is just easy to start with, and once you are making money with it, it very easy to just stay with since all your data is there
Revolut FROZE 200k of my balance in June for a month too.
Funny thing is i contacted them before i got a big chunk of that money to make sure i wouldnt have any issues.
Next day, my account was frozen
I found a bit of a grey area..solution for this.
DM me , im curious if it works for you too lmao
Revolut has restricted access to around $28,000 of my money since 25 August. I cannot make outbound transfers, use my card, withdraw cash or withdraw crypto.
The restriction began without a clear explanation or any request for documents. Revolut later asked for information, which I provided. More than a month on, I still have no clear timeline for restoring access.
Revolut upheld my complaint and offered £75, but the restrictions remain. I have escalated the case to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
I want to know what justified the restriction, why the review has taken this long, and whether the communication and support I received meet the FCA’s Consumer Duty and the Payment Services Regulations 2017.
Journalists covering banking, fintech or consumer rights are welcome to contact me. I can share the correspondence and timeline.
I received these kinds of amounts multiple times and never had an issue, which is why I didn't look much into it.
This specific transfer was around 80-100k. There were also times I've had more than 200k in that account.
I always send a message for anything I receive above 50k just in case
The freeze was random. But yeah, what you said is true
not surprised at all
0% on dividends for non-doms
~3% effective on IP
0% on capital gains
8% on crypto
actual sun, sea and food
the 1% knows whats up. Cyprus wins
As an actual Greek Cypriot, it both blows my mind and somehow makes perfect sense that Cyprus is becoming a hotspot for the top 1% people in the world
Been saying it for years but this is Europe’s gem
Imagine falling to the concrete jungle propaganda over the purest form of the Mediterranean
