Gerry Duggan isn’t the worst writer to ever be on X-Men (Chuck Austen still exists), but considering the situation Hickman had set up for him I don’t think anyone has done less with more
we need to stop pretending this gives her any kind of boost, especially now that she's canonnically a witch as well. the omega level mutant goddess born from a powerful magical bloodline and now avatar of eternity itself does not need that stupid ass hammer
I reviewed some clips of Lilandra from X-Men '97, after someone pointed out her skin tone, and wow was I way off! I'm glad gouache allows me to make these adjustments easily.
Also doing some blue color swatch tests for her cloak 😊
@mekhetgbfg@HomoSuperiorX The problem with comics is that comics consumers grip too tightly on a continuity that will never be rigid. As illustrated in this thread; the state of the X-Men AFTER Claremont’s return was abysmal. Morrison’s hard reset may have pissed people but it gave the franchise life.
And I’m not even suggesting break them up or change their dynamic TOO MUCH but I know if I was a writer writing them there would be some dusting and kicking dirt on them because good writing conveys conflict and their relationship has always needed that.
This is a terrible take. Heinberg’s original notes had their relationship as rocky for reasons that were never explored in continuity. They feel very sanitized and unearned because there was very little work done to convey something to the audience that they should care.
YAWN. Ignoring how this is an obvious Wiccan and Hulkling jab, it’s very telling that SOME writers themselves also have this “couples need to be messy” mentality. Maybe we just don’t know how to write comic couples without having to add chaos instead of… exploring their lives?
And it feels like anytime they’re ABOUT to do the work they stop because of think like this. People are so stuck on “oh we can’t have them be messy because xyz” removes very human stories from these two which is why the Empyre shit mostly fell flat. It felt fake as hell.
