This argument is shortsighted. Never before has a technology existed that could outperform the human mind. Couple AI with advanced robotics and energy storage, and we find ourselves at the precipice of being obsolete in every meaningful way. Machines will be able to outperform humans in every current AND future job and do them for far less cost.
We are past the point of no return, I'm afraid. Any nation, company, or organization that bans AI will fall behind those who embrace it.
All it will take is one rogue actor to remove the restraints on an AI to seal the fate of humanity as the parasites that we will have become.

@esrtweet @nellohead Absolutely true. OP is wrong. I shut my desktop system down once per quarter to blow it out, but otherwise it stays on. I've only had to replace systems for purely performance upgrades. My previous machine was a 1st gen Core i7 that lasted 12 years and still ran perfectly.
