Congratulations to South Africa for reaching the World Cup Knockout rounds for the first time in their history.
Rising from the opening day defeat against Mexico to get the better of regular campaigners South Korea last night is impressive.
It’s important for African teams to do well in the global tournament to make the most of having 10 teams in this edition.
How I used wordplay with the name of the stadium (MetLife) and the State (New Jersey) to describe the goal from Vinicius for Brazil while on commentary on Nigeria Info last night.
Getting ready to describe the action between Brazil and Morocco Live on 99.3 Nigeria Info FM later tonight.
Sleep would have to wait as I get into commentary mode from 10:45PM.
This is the best kind of morning to have such heavy rain in Lagos since it’s a public holiday.
Though some of us on essential duties are still working, but it gives most workers a chance to have some extra cool good morning sleep - an experience that normally doesn’t come too often.
A blockbuster set up!!
Our World Cup opening match watch party crew has the legendary Super Falcons striker @oparanozie9 , the rhymes master @ChumaNnoli and the ever delectable on the mic @YinyeSwit
You don’t want to miss it tomorrow at Bature Brewery! Entrance is free, just call to book a table and come with friends!
#54fxWorldCup26
2 days to the 2026 World Cup - Facts & Figures:
Only two times have two African teams reached the Round of 16 of a World Cup in the same edition of the tournament.
Brazil 2014 - Nigeria and Algeria
Qatar 2022 - Morocco and Senegal
Six countries have reached 2 consecutive finals of the World Cup.
2 teams qualify automatically from each group into the knockout phase of the World Cup.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s chance of becoming player of the tournament in the 2026 World Cup is slim as the winners of the award in the last five tournaments were all wearing jersey number 10.
CR7 wears 7 for Portugal and no player on number 7 jersey has ever won the Golden Ball award since it was introduced in 1982.
Been meeting people tonight that I’ve not seen since 2012 when I officially left Calabar radio and it’s such a great feeling.
It’s the night for the unveiling of the 2026 Carnival Calabar theme in Lagos.
Beautiful colours everywhere.
Back in UNILAG to watch the Final of the UNITECOL Cup between LASU and LASUED.
I’ve enjoyed my visits so far seeing brilliance from these Universities and Colleges.
Hoping the two sides give us goals.
Meanwhile, UNILAG beat YABATECH earlier to get the Bronze medal.
In UNILAG watching the host play LASUED in the Semi Finals and the goals, excitement and drama is palpable.
Just a reminder of how successful our football industry can be with the right packaging.
Well done to the organizers of the UNITECOL Cup.
Came to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to watch the opening day of the UNITECOL Cup and I’m impressed by the quality of their pitch compared to what I’ve seen at another tertiary institution in Lagos.
Reminds me of how clean the University of Calabar Abraham Ordia stadium used to be when I was schooling there several years ago.
It’s really important to have good sporting facilities in schools.
So I hear Shoday and Reminisce have been confirmed among the stars that will be performing at #GoalFest2026
That will certainly add even more magic to the excitement of watching the Champion League final on massive screens with thousands of Fans supporting Arsenal or PSG at the Balmoral Convention Center, VI.
The best part is the fact that registration to attend is free.
Can May 30 just reach already.
These videos always look so nice and cool at the end when some sort of gift or reward is handed to the lady that was more receptive.
However, let’s be more realistic here and bring it home. How many of us walking on a busy street in Lagos or anywhere else in Nigeria would smile and welcome a hug from a random stranger who’s just walking past you.
With the level of insecurity and mischief by some people in the world these days, most of us won’t take such risk.
So, yeah, it’s cool to see someone being gifted, but let’s not shame or blame the lady that refused the hug.
I’ll only find fault in her actions for being in a hurry to want to receive the phone from the same “stranger”.
Barcelona have been miles ahead of Real Madrid in the La Liga in the last six months and that disparity in quality is showing tonight.
Moved from being five points behind Real Madrid after #ElClásico last October to now being 14 points ahead with the current scoreline.
Hansi Flick has built a solid team.
So for the first time since GoalFest started 10 years ago, we’ll finally have the pleasure of watching Arsenal there in the Champions League final.
Normally, thousands of fans turn up every year for the event that also delivers performances from top music stars, food and giveaways.
But I can only how much more fun this year would be when Arsenal fans turn up in your colourful fashion at the Balmoral Convention Center, VI on May 30.
Time to register to attend #GoalFest2026 for free at https://t.co/Ku2xDyIZkf
If we all agree that #ElClásico is the biggest club football match in the world….
Which game would you pick as the second biggest club match in the world?
Stepped out of the house earlier and was so excited with how clement the weather is today.
Wish it could remain like this everyday and not that crazy heat of the sun we’ve been forced to consistently endure.
But I guess global warming/climate change have other plans.
Tchouameni reportedly earns about €240,385 per week at Real Madrid while Valverde is paid about €320,577 weekly.
So the €500,000 fine imposed on each of them by Real Madrid, as punishment for the much publicized altercation, would only feel like missing two weeks salary for the stars.
It’s good that swift action was taken though and hopefully the Spanish giants can put all of these issues behind them and start planning to return to title winning ways from next season.
Real Madrid has always been the club that’s bigger than the effect or personality of even their greatest stars, but it looks like that’s changing and leading to these issues in the team.
There’s been too much of negative press around the club this season linked to actions or inactions of their players.
Vinicius, Mbappe, and now Valverde and Tchouameni.
Two seasons without a trophy is already bad enough for the Spanish giants.
