APC people have been making jest of Peter Obi for investing Anambra State money in a brewery.

According to them, Obi “wasted” Anambra’s money investing in beer that contributed nothing to the state.

Well, let me shock you. 😏

But first, small history.

During Peter Obi’s tenure as governor, Anambra State invested about ₦1.96 billion in Intafact Beverages, the Onitsha brewery established by SABMiller in 2012. The state took an equity stake in the company.

SABMiller itself initially invested over $100 million in the Onitsha brewery and later announced another $110 million expansion, driven in part by the success of Hero Lager. At the time, the brewery directly employed about 300 people, with the expansion expected to create another 400 direct jobs.

The brewery was commissioned in August 2012 and Hero Lager became one of its major brands. It eventually became part of International Breweries Plc following the AB InBev/SABMiller consolidation.

And yes, Anambra State still retained shares in the company after the merger. In 2022, the state said it held 407,321,264 shares in International Breweries Plc in exchange for its original investment.

So when you people say “Obi wasted Anambra money on beer,” please explain something to me:

How exactly is investing in a major industrial project that brought a multinational brewer into Onitsha, created jobs and left the state with an equity stake the same thing as “wasting money”? 🤔

And before somebody starts shouting that Hero Beer is not the biggest taxpayer in Anambra, I agree and also disagree. 😂

Anambra’s own tax agency has said Intafact/International Breweries ranked sixth among corporate taxpayers in 2023–2024, behind major banks. So the only companies paying higher tax se than the Brewery are commercial banks - for me, that’s a 1st position if you remove commercial banks🫩

Tell me again that Peter Obi has not made any major contribution to growth in Anambra apart from his developmental efforts as governor and I’ll show you the Brewery and Innoson.

A man tells you he left 2billion naira and another 75billion naira in a state government account number in First Bank, in the year 2014 after he left office as governor of Anambra.

He told you the amount,
He told you the bank account number,
He told you the name of the bank,
He told you the amount he left.

He then crowns it all by saying IF you find his claims to be false, he will stop campaigning. The state governor should simply post the statement account for the state in 2014 to disprove him IF he is lying. But the foolish governor of the state is busy making stupid statements.

My goodness. This is not even about politics. But Peter Obi is just simply exemplary and exceptional.
