Astronaut, physician, and former Navy SEAL Jonny Kim has left NASA after nearly a decade to continue his service in the U.S. Navy.
Kim, a lieutenant commander, will spend the remainder of his military career working in naval aviation training. He became a dual-designated naval aviator and flight surgeon after previously serving with SEAL Team Three on more than 100 combat operations as a medic, sniper, navigator, and point man.
Kim was selected as a NASA astronaut in 2017 and spent eight months aboard the International Space Station in 2025, orbiting the Earth 3,920 times and traveling nearly 104 million miles.
