At 8:53pm, @__drewface called me and a few of his closest friends. He said that he'd arrived home to a flooded apartment. His wife was abroad, his baby daughter was freaking out, and he needed help ASAP before mold started growing
Within 10 minutes, we had 7 people on their way to his house. Soon after we had a coordinating WhatsApp group that grew to 14 people
@evodevotee was an hour away so she became the Guy In The Chair, using LLMs to come up with a checklist operating procedure for our converging team. She was joined by @madhu___s to figure out purchases of equipment from Home Depot
Meanwhile @MarkEstefanos took off on his electric skateboard to go pick them up
A big group of us show up all at once at the apartment. @IvanVendrov came with smoothies. @beana_tweets came with her boyfriend. I came with Poli, my rockstar friend visiting from Berlin
We went downstairs to assess the damage. The bottom floor was now a pond about 1inch deep. Lots of furniture, fabrics, and electronics were sitting in water
The source of the flooding was a low-set window. The water had streamed in during the torrential downpour a couple hours previous
We got to work:
• We created a human chain to move wet stuff to dry places.
• In the absence of a mop, @beana_tweets used a broom to usher water into the floor drain we uncovered.
• Poli mopped the floor; she used diluted bleach to clean away runoff water residue, making the floor fit for Andrew's baby to crawl on the next day
In parallel:
• @mr_samosaman went knocking on neighbor's doors to borrow a charge-card to operate the laundry machines
• @pee_zombie brought a wet/dry vacuum from @fractaltechnyc
• I also put on music bc our crew's tacit philosophy is that work can be fun
Finally @MarkEstefanos arrived with the materials to finish the job. These included absorbent towels, gloves, moisture absorbing gel, and four fans that dried the mopped floors extremely fast
As the fans ran, I biked to a place nearby that has the best birria in Brooklyn and picked up tacos, tostadas, and mulitas
We ate them to celebrate

In the end, @danielgolliher arrived to help, but we had no more tasks for him. Our crew of 10 had conquered the job in about 2hrs
Some takeaways:
