Just finished Motor City... honestly, what have I just watched? I get what it tries to do, but it just doesn't work. Trying something different is one thing, but being different just for the sake of it feels... pretentious.

@Redapple_ali38 One might have an incredible atmosphere, another an amazing story, another might be pure spectacle, and they can all be great for completely different reasons. So comparing them and trying to put them in some definitive order feels almost unfair.

@Redapple_ali38 Same, as it should be, to be honest. Films are so unique in that regard that it’s almost impossible to have a proper ranking. I think that’s one of the things I love most about film as an art form. There’s just so much variety in what one can offer.

@Redapple_ali38 I've always had difficulty with this sort of thing as well, even when asked "top 5 favourites ever" I can't really produce a list. As for my top 3 Hitchcock films, Rear Window (adore it), Psycho, and Dial M for Murder, although I do love Vertigo as well.

Overall, The Last House is a poor execution of an intriguing mystery. A promising beginning that showed real potential, followed by a steady downhill journey that never managed to recover.

Not necessarily a bad movie, but a poor one. It certainly has its moments, but there aren't that many. The beginning shows a lot of promise, but unfortunately, it all goes downhill from there.

Atmospherically, the film works well, and I enjoyed the mystery. But the writing is weak, the story is full of plot holes and plausibility issues, and the characters make far too many illogical decisions. The ending was especially disappointing and left me completely unsatisfied.

The story is straightforward and the writing isn't its strongest point, but Barry Pepper and Annabella Piugattuk deliver great performances that elevate the film. And the fact that Piugattuk was a non-professional actress makes her performance even more impressive.

Where do I start with this one? The writing is bad, the dialogue is weak and amateurish, and the whole thing is just confusing. Some might say it's by design, but for me, it never really makes much sense.

And for a movie that's supposed to be horror, there is surprisingly little horror to be found. No real thrills, no tension, and nothing particularly frightening or memorable. The one thing I did like was Phinehas Yoon. His performance is the only good thing in the movie.
