El problema es la corrupción.

Puerto Rico tiene una carga contributiva comparable a la de muchos países desarrollados.

Pagamos un IVU de 11.5%, contribuciones sobre ingresos de hasta 33%, arbitrios, CRIM, peajes y una larga lista de impuestos y cargos. Estudios recientes concluyen que la carga contributiva estatal y municipal de Puerto Rico es mayor que la de cualquier estado de Estado Unidos y comparable o superior a la de 24 estados donde además pagan impuestos federales completos.

La diferencia es que cuando uno mira países como Portugal o España, encuentra sistemas eléctricos estables, agua potable confiable, infraestructura moderna y servicios públicos mucho más eficientes.

En Puerto Rico pagamos como una jurisdicción desarrollada, pero muchas veces recibimos servicios propios de una jurisdicción en crisis.

El problema no es que falte dinero. El problema es que demasiados recursos se pierden entre corrupción, ineficiencia, contratos cuestionables y décadas de mala administración.

Cuando un pueblo paga tanto y recibe tan poco, el fracaso no es de los contribuyentes. Es de quienes administran el dinero público.
