@WoodsonCenter@BobWoodson We're deeply sorry to hear this -- and so grateful we got to interview him just a few months ago. What a noble soul! And talk about going with your boots on! He seemed to be active right to the end. A mighty oak, indeed.
We were saddened to hear of Bob Woodson's passing --and so grateful we got to interview him for @CioccaProsper just a few months ago. What a noble soul, and a champion of subsidiarity, human dignity, community, and family.

We were honored to welcome Gianmarco Botti, an Italian journalist and scholar of American politics, to campus for a week of research and conversation.
During his visit, Dr. Botti joined our Novak Fellows for their March symposium, where the group explored thoughtful and effective approaches to addressing poverty. He offered valuable insights from outside the American perspective and engaged with our students while experiencing their seminar-style discussions firsthand.
Pictured here in front of the portrait of Michael Novak, a topic of his study, and the scholar who inspires the Novak Fellowship. Botti’s visit was a meaningful opportunity for intellectual exchange and global perspective.
📚 On Our Shelf: "Exponential View" on Substack by Azeem Azhar
“There are few newsletters I read each and every time they arrive, but this one — always.”
@AndreasWidmer, Director of the Ciocca Center, recommends Exponential View, a weekly substack by technology analyst Azeem Azhar. Drawing on his expertise in artificial intelligence and exponential technologies, Azhar offers thoughtful analysis of the innovations shaping the next three to five years.
A valuable read for anyone interested in understanding how emerging technologies are transforming business, society, and the global economy.

Excited to welcome Bryan to Napa this summer for what is sure to be a silo-busting event. The difference with a @ClunyInstitute conference, though, is that Bryan will either by follow directly by, or be in conversation with, a Benedictine monk. You will hear conversations and meet people at the intersection of Athens, Jerusalem, and Silicon Valley, and we will probe the fundamental question of "life" to its limits.
There's still time to join us.
You will come away feeling more alive. That is my promise to you.

"In the end, the truth will come out in the Kingdom of God. And that is good enough for me."
Jimmy Lai is a devout Catholic who has sacrificed everything for his beliefs.
From a Hong Kong prison cell, he reads the Gospel each day by the little light he has. He has even been denied Communion as a means to weaken his faith.
Yet he continues to pray, even for his Communist captors, hoping they too will one day feel the grace of God.
Jimmy Lai's body may be imprisoned, but his spirit is not.

📚 On Our Shelf: "Unreasonable Hospitality" by Will Guidara
“Sometimes I don’t understand why a business book takes off, but this one was a bestseller for a reason.”
Rebecca Teti, Operations Director of the Ciocca Center, recommends "Unreasonable Hospitality" by Will Guidara. It’s a powerful reminder that excellence in business begins with honoring the dignity of the human person in every interaction and that meaningful service is what sets organizations apart.
A worthwhile read for anyone who wants to lead with intention and serve with excellence. Stay tuned for our next recommended resource!
Happy Feast of St. Thomas Aquinas! ✨
St. John Paul II reminds us that when we work well, we don’t just make more. We become more.
St. Thomas helps us see why. Work is not only a necessity, nor merely a burden to be endured, but a form of service — one that binds us to others and orders our talents toward the common good.
On this feast day, may we be renewed in the call to take our work seriously: to pursue excellence with humility, to serve others through what we create, and to let our labor form us in wisdom and charity.
PS - In spite of the ice, the university's Mass of St. Thomas Aquinas is taking place at 12:10 in the Basilica. Join if you can!
St. Thomas Aquinas, pray for us.
Work is never just work.
As St. John Paul II reminds us, it is through our daily labor that we share in God’s own creative action. At the Ciocca Center, we believe this truth should transform how we lead, build, and serve—seeing work not merely as a means to an end, but as a path to human flourishing.

On the first day of ENT/MGT 118, students dove straight into Mercatum (or "marketplace") - a highly immersive market simulation built around a modified version of the card game Pit. The room began to buzz with excitement as students experienced supply, demand, risk, and strategy in real time. No slides required!
And yes, the stakes were real: winning teams bid on prizes ranging from a lunch for four with Prof. Teti and Prof. Widmer, to copies of "The Art of Principled Entrepreneurship", to a giant bag of Sour Patch Kids.

Calling dads! I am so excited to share this news.
For months I have been telling you that the “dad’s study” is underway—it really is!
We have conducted fifteen pilot interviews within a three-hour drive of the DMV region. We have cleaned up transcripts, looked for common threads, and refined our questions. We ready to hit the road and visit with dads all around the country.
Please help us cast the widest net by sharing this call for subjects here on X and in your local networks and other socials, especially if you have contacts in one of our ten regions (below). Men beyond those regions may apply, and will be considered as research needs indicate.
