AUGUST 1ST IS HERE
🧵 by @beinbrink28
If you're a rising junior who wants to play college baseball...
Here's what August 1st REALLY means (and what it doesn't).
After 20+ years in college baseball recruiting and conversations with hundreds of the nation's top D1 college coaches, here's my advice...👇
1/9
🚨 Why does August 1 matter?
August 1 is the first day Division I college baseball coaches can begin initiating recruiting phone calls with many rising juniors.
For some players, it's the beginning of their recruiting journey.
For others...
It's just another day.
Don't confuse a calendar date with your recruiting journey.
2/9
📞 What does it mean if you receive a call?
It means a college has enough interest to start building a relationship.
It is usually NOT:
❌ An offer
❌ A scholarship
❌ A commitment
Interest is great.
Relationships are what matter.
3/9
⚾ Which schools are most likely to call?
Typically:
• D1 Programs with early recruiting strategies
(P4, Mid- Major, Select Ivy League / Patriot League etc...)
Who do they usually call or text?
• Top national prospects
• Clear D1 prospects
• Players they've already evaluated usually
The most deserving players don't always get called on August 1st.
4/9
🤔 Should you EXPECT a phone call?
No.
And that's completely normal.
The overwhelming majority of high school players will NOT receive a call today.
Many future MLB, Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, and Junior College players won't hear from coaches until 3, 6, 12, maybe 16 months —from now.
Your recruiting process is NOT over or any need to PANIC because your phone didn't ring on August 1st.
5/9
📋 How do you prepare if a coach calls?
Simple.
✅ Find a quiet place.
✅ Research the program beforehand.
✅ Be yourself.
✅ Answer honestly.
✅ Have 3-5 thoughtful questions ready.
Remember...
They're evaluating YOU.
But you're evaluating THEM too.
6/9
🎯 Questions coaches will likely ask...
• Tell me about yourself.
• How are your grades?
• What are your goals?
• What are you looking for in a college?
• What are your fall/summer plans?
• Who else are you talking with?
They're recruiting the person as much as the player.
7/9
💡 Questions YOU should ask...
• Where do you see me fitting into your program?
• What do I need to improve?
• What does player development look like?
• What is your recruiting timeline?
• What are the next steps?
Never end the call with:
"I don't have any questions."
Preparation stands out.
8/9
📈 What if you DON'T get a call?
Get better.
Get back to work.
Commit to yourself before you commit to a college.
Most recruiting decisions happen because of what players do AFTER August 1.
Develop.
Perform.
Improve your grades.
Update your video.
Get to bed at 10 pm.
Eat well.
Hydrate like a pro.
Communicate consistently.
Play well when coaches are watching.
9/9
The biggest recruiting mistake I see?
Players waiting for coaches to find them.
The players who win the recruiting process create opportunities.
They improve relentlessly.
They have a growth mindset
They build strategic relationships.
They make themselves impossible to ignore.
Keep working.
Your phone may not ring today...
Control the Controllables!

🧵 Tomorrow is August 1. Here's what REALLY happens inside a college baseball recruiting office.
After 20+ years in college recruiting and conversations with hundreds of college coaches, here's the reality most families never see.
Let's separate facts from hype. 👇
1/10
⚾ There are over 1,500 college baseball programs in America.
There are well over 100,000 players in the 2028 class.
Tomorrow...
Only a small fraction of colleges will actually pick up the phone.
Perspective matters.
2/10
📞 The call list is MUCH shorter than most families imagine.
In my estimate:
• ~200 college programs will actively make August 1 recruiting calls.
• Only ~50 programs will make scholarship offers on Day 1.
That's a tiny percentage of the recruiting market.
3/10
Inside the recruiting office...
The call list is already finished.
It wasn't built this week.
It was built over the last 12+ months from:
✅ Game evaluations
✅ Video
✅ Verified metrics
✅ Camps
✅ Transcripts
✅ Conversations with high school coaches
✅ Travel ball coaches
✅ Recruiting advisors
✅ MLB scouts
✅ Trainers
August 1 is simply when the conversations officially begin.
4/10
Most staffs will contact somewhere between 10-30 players on Day 1.
Some programs won't even call.
Instead they'll:
📱 Text
📧 Email
💬 Continue conversations they've already started behind the scenes.
Every program recruits differently.
5/10
Here's something families rarely realize...
FOMO is real in college recruiting.
If a coach believes another school is about to move first...
They're much more likely to make the call.
Recruiting is competitive for coaches too.
Nobody wants to lose a player they believe fits their program.
6/10
Most of the work falls on assistant coaches.
They're the ones who:
• Build evaluation lists
• Watch games
• Talk with coaches
• Gather background
• Make many of the initial calls
Head coaches usually join later with priority recruits and final decisions.
7/10
Every August 1 conversation has a purpose.
The coach wants to learn:
• Is this player genuinely interested?
• Who else is recruiting them?
• Where can we watch them this fall?
• Is this someone we should continue investing time in?
They're selling their program...
while evaluating yours.
8/10
Here's the part most families miss...
August 1 is NOT where recruiting classes are built.
It's where relationships officially start.
Many coaches expect a large percentage of their eventual recruiting class to come from players they discover and build relationships with AFTER August 1.
The calendar opens the door.
Performance determines who walks through it.
9/10
If you're one of the players receiving calls tomorrow...
You probably already saw the signs.
✔️ Coaches followed you.
✔️ They watched multiple games.
✔️ They talked with your coaches.
✔️ They reached out to people around you.
✔️ They kept showing up.
Very few August 1 calls come out of nowhere.
10/10
📵 What if your phone never rings?
Go to work.
There are still 1,500+ college baseball programs that aren't making August 1 calls.
Before you commit to a college...
Commit to becoming a better player.
✔️ Develop your game.
✔️ Perform when it matters.
✔️ Improve your grades.
✔️ Update your video.
✔️ Sleep 8+ hours.
✔️ Eat like an athlete.
✔️ Hydrate consistently.
✔️ Communicate with coaches.
✔️ Keep showing up.
The players who sign in 2028 won't be determined by one day.
They'll be determined by what they do in the 365 days after it.
