We have a collective penchant for platforming silliness.

America, whose social culture we constantly try to imitate, is also firmly grounded in the arts, fashion, science, innovation and serious intellectual discourse, alongside celebrity culture and social fads.

In Nigeria, almost every other institution is failing, while social media trends and empty fads increasingly shape how people think, behave and define success.

People are rewarded for doing the lewdest and most outrageous things for views. Cameras are constantly pushed into people’s faces, and individuals with little of value to contribute are repeatedly given platforms simply because controversy attracts attention.

What example are we setting for children who absorb everything they see, especially in an era where school na scam has become a popular mantra?

We are slowly becoming a society that teaches young people to prioritise attending social events, chasing exotic cars, begging celebrities for money and recording every encounter for content.

A society cannot develop when visibility is valued more than knowledge, hard work, dignity and actual contribution.

🥈 SILVER for Nigeria 🇳🇬 in the men's 4x100m at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow!

The quartet of Favour Ashe, Kayinsola Ajayi, Nicholas Fakorede & Udodi Onwuzurike ran a Season's Best of 38.12s to finish 2nd in a tightly contested race.

They finished behind Australia 🇦🇺 who won in 38.07s, while Canada 🇨🇦 who crossed the line in 2nd place, were disqualified.
