🥵 Extreme Heat Warning Issued for NYC

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect across all five boroughs from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with dangerous conditions expected to continue through Saturday evening. Heat index values could reach 109 degrees by Friday, with triple-digit temperatures possible through the July 4 holiday weekend.

Hundreds of cooling centers are opening citywide, including public hospitals, libraries, senior centers, the Javits Center, and NYC Emergency Management headquarters. Public pools will remain open an extra hour, and LinkNYC kiosks will provide directions to the nearest cooling site.

Health officials are urging New Yorkers to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged time outdoors, check on elderly neighbors and loved ones, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles. An Air Quality Health Advisory and the potential for severe thunderstorms and flash flooding are also in effect.
