"Cities have the capability of providing something for everybody, only because, and only when, they are created by everybody."
At @Civicplan, we continued to be inspired by this sage advice from Jane Jacobs.
Over 50% of Ontario’s GHG emissions come from cities & they can help decrease them through leading by example & planning growth. The @citymississauga is updating its Climate Change Action Plan & Civicplan has designed an interactive & informative Climate Lab to engage residents.
The ideas are flowing! A Design Lab is an interactive way for residents to participate in the improvement of their civic spaces. Through Civicplan's Design Lab, we are assisting @GSP_Group & MTE with engaging residents around the redesign St. George’s Square in downtown Guelph.
Building a Stronger City - In the fall issue of @HamCityMagazine, Civicplan's Paul Shaker explains why the @StrongTowns movement and lessons from south of the border can act as inspiration for community engagement, planning and redevelopment here.

Civicplan is assisting with the reimaging of multiple parks in the KW area in response to changing needs resulting from climate change & stormwater management. Interactive engagement tools & participatory design are bringing residents into the process to redesign these spaces.📲
There is a reason why they call it PUBLIC space. When there is a once-in-a-generation redesign of St. George's Square in downtown Guelph, residents want to participate! Civicplan's Community Design Lab is helping residents shape this important city space.

With the start of another school year, it's a great time to remember that if you want to build effective pedestrian friendly streets, build them for students. A @DailySchoolRte Student Streets Strategy is a great way to develop active transportation and safer streets.

"When we usually talk about city development & sustainability, too often we focus on the urban part of our city. However, this is an incomplete discussion. What about the rural part, where suburbia ends & farming fields begin?"

"Montreal’s experience is a demonstration of the power of pedestrian-only areas to revitalize cities, at a time when the rise of hybrid work and other aftershocks of the pandemic have helped to hollow out urban cores."

"Amsterdam’s streets are about to get slower. The max speed of majority of the capital’s roads will drop to 30 kph, down from the current 50kph. Amsterdam joins a growing crop of European cities who are instituting new efforts to improve road safety." https://t.co/Wa3zTp2oaK
Inclusive economic development ensures women are skilled to enter workplaces that are supportive of their advancement. Civicplan was pleased to work with @YWCA_Hamilton to design the Uplift program, providing women with training in specialized fields across Southern Ontario.

The area in front of schools is sometimes the most dangerous for students. Creating Student Zones is one way to make this area safer. With our partner @DailySchoolRte, we are using our tools like Design Lab to engage communities, promote safer streets & active school travel.
