In March 1953, during the Battle of Outpost Vegas, she made 51 trips in a single day, hauling more than 9,000 pounds of ammunition under constant enemy fire. 

Marines later admitted: without her, hundreds of them might not have survived.

What made her remarkable was not just her strength, but her heart. She often traveled supply routes alone, memorizing paths across shell-torn hills. 

She shielded Marines with her own body, was wounded twice, and kept moving. At night, she ate rations with the men — scrambled eggs, bacon, even coffee — and slept in their tents. To them, she wasn’t livestock. She was family.

In recognition of her service, she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and awarded two Purple Hearts, among other medals. After the war, she was brought to the United States, where she lived at Camp Pendleton.

Sergeant Reckless died peacefully in 1968 at the age of about 20. She was buried with full military honors, a tribute normally reserved for human heroes. Today, statues across America remember her, including one at the National Museum of the Marine Corps.

Sometimes, the bravest soldier on the battlefield walks on four legs. 🫡

When you use it, you’re saying people with intellectual & developmental disabilities are less than human. You’re telling on yourself — showing ignorance, cruelty, and laziness with language.

If you mean dumb, ignorant, or pathetic, then say that. Don’t hide behind a word that’s been used to bully, abuse, and erase disabled people for decades.

Using it doesn’t make you edgy. It makes you an ableist. Period.

On This Day, August 12, 1969.
We remember Specialist Four Leonard L. Alvarado, U.S. Army. 🇺🇸

During a mission in Vietnam, SP4 Alvarado and a small reaction force were moving to help another platoon in trouble when they came under enemy fire. Wounded multiple times by grenades, he selflessly started pulling injured soldiers to safety.

From his position while seriously injured, he laid down suppressive fire, taking out enemies and a machine-gun position, allowing his unit to break contact. When the battle ended, his unit found he had given his life in the fight.

For his heroism, SP4 Alvarado was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 2014. We honor his courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to his fellow soldiers.

@ScottyTidwell Biden ran as a moderate candidate and most Americans believed him. Kamala tried running as a moderate without actually talking about her policies, so people went based on her previous policy proposals which were pretty far left.
