Tonight Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Labour Party nominated @JoeJFagan to be the next leader of the Scottish Labour Party.
Joe’s passion, experience leading a large council, ability as a communicator and commitment to Labour values were mentioned by local members speaking in support
The choice next May is clear: a third decade of this tired and out of touch SNP government, or a new direction with Scottish Labour.

I used my #InternationalWomensDay speech in the House of Commons to celebrate the women in our community making a difference across the constituency.
I also took the opportunity to reflect on the progress that has been made and the work still to be done both at home and globally
Cumbernauld Theatre has been removed from Creative Scotland's portfolio of funded organisations, placing the company, its employees and its vital work with the local community at risk.

When the SNP came to power in 2007, they inherited an NHS in robust health.
But in their time in power, the SNP has plunged our NHS into permanent crisis.

25 years ago the last Labour Government introduced the Minimum Wage. This year we confirmed a £1,400 increase for 3 million workers on the National Living Wage.
A fair wage for a day’s work, that's the difference a Labour Government makes.

We see this issue all too often in our communities - most recently with the essential 147 which was reduced in frequent and almost completely withdrawn due to repeated anti social behaviour and criminality.
@LynnMcMillan123 Not one MSP has had a vote to do this as the SNP handed the powers back to the UK. Devolution gives us re power, and more than enough funding, to do things differently. That’s why it was invented
This is devolution in action. The U.K. Labour Government has given the Scottish Government billions extra to spend. Reinstating the winter fuel payment for all pensioners will take a small proportion of that and is the right thing to do.
@therealrabha Devolution means different parliaments will take different decisions - that is literally the point of it. If we all just did the same thing there’d be no point in devolution.
@Kat_Says_Stuff There hasn’t been a binding vote at Holyrood because the SNP handed the power back to Westminster! We will take the power back and reinstate the WFA.
@ScottEgner1 It’s not mitigation. It’s literally how devolution is supposed to work. Or would you rather the Scottish Parliament just do everything the same as Westminster?
Almost every other council follows outdated Scottish Government mileage thresholds meaning primary school transport is only provided to those living more than 2 miles from school. The Labour Administration has listened to parents and will continue to provide transport at 1 mile.
@Dunnachie3 You better tell all the economists and the Scottish Government that. They release actual stats every year saying otherwise. Maybe they’ll scrap all the data analysis and research and just use your unsubstantiated tweet next year instead
