The Blame Game Won’t Hold the Line: A Call to True Command Responsibility

In the military, we are governed by a foundational doctrine:

Command Responsibility. When a commander takes over an area of operations, they inherit the terrain, the assets, and the vulnerabilities. If the line breaches under your watch, you do not blame the officer who rotated out years ago. You hold the line, you fix the breach, and you take responsibility.

Today, we are witnessing an alarming breakdown of this doctrine within our civilian leadership.

We are well into the fourth year of the current administration. Yet, there is a vocal segment within our active and retired ranks—dominated by a select few—who continue to look pathetic by arrogantly deflecting all criticisms toward previous leaders.

To my fellow officers, I ask: Since when did finger-pointing become a substitute for operational success? Four years is more than enough time to reform procurement, audit infrastructure, and fortify our positions.

Continuing to blame the past is no longer a strategic assessment; it is a confession of current incompetence.

Look at the operational failure happening right in front of us. Our people are drowning in recurring floods while billions of pesos vanish into substandard and "ghost" flood control projects. An audit revealing hundreds of non-existent structures isn't just budget manipulation; it is a direct betrayal of public safety.

While the populace scrambles for survival in waist-deep water, the political class is utterly consumed by the ongoing impeachment proceedings in Manila.

The current impeachment has been weaponized into a political circus. It is distracting the government from addressing the immediate, life-threatening crisis of corruption in our disaster defenses.

Instead of marshaling our resources to audit the multi-billion peso flood control scandal and prosecute the central figures behind it, the legislature is locked in a theater of partisan survival.

True discipline is not silent compliance, nor is it the arrogant defense of a failing leadership.

True loyalty belongs to the Republic and the sovereign people.

When the current administration allows corruption to hollow out the very infrastructure meant to protect our citizens, those who remain blindly sycophantic are violating their oath.

It is time for the military community, both active and retired, to stop acting as public relations shields for civilian failure. Demand accountability for the money stolen today.

The current administration has held the baton for four years—the floods, the corruption, and the consequences happen on their watch.

It is time they face the music.
