54 days later and I finally get a response. The response is that I can't say my name on github. Insane right? Anyone have some good legal advice for me? @github
What is wrong with @github? Over a month ago my account was flagged for violating their Acceptable Use policy. They claimed my account engaged in hate speech. If you noticed my name -- Clark Fagot -- you may have guessed that they flagged the account based on my name. π§΅
4/10 To make this worse they've blocked my access to Copilot -- a service I've prepaid for a year in advance. This is illegal, no? And trying to report this issue just loops back to the Appeal and Reinstatement form.
10/10 So, @github has the ability to lock out accounts from public discourse for sloppy reasons which they don't even disclose, give no path to reinstatement, and continue to charge for services they stop providing. What's a good Fagot like myself to do? You tell me @github.
9/10 Just to be clear, the more bans you do the more likely the additional bans are going to be bogus, so you should really be seeing many more reinstatements than in past years, not a flat rate.
8/10 How often is this happening? They proudly track that data: https://t.co/6psUA2Z9h2. The short answer is almost an order of magnitude more often in the last year or so with no increase in reinstatements.
6/10 I'm also blocked from contributing to open source projects -- can't submit issues or PRs, no github search, no third-party plugins can be registered. @github's control over the open source community is not a good thing. Check out alternative tools like @cursor_ai, @gitlab.
5/10 Of course, the Appeal and Reinstatement form has a link for if you have a real issue. That link, you guessed it, takes you back to the Appeal and Reinstatement form. Hanlon's razor I guess.
3/10 A second guess is that @github decided to clean up the dialog on the site and are now paying people whose incentive is to block people but not unblock. I just can't think of a reason for them to be this slow at review that says well managed company.

2/10 I submitted an appeal right away describing the situation. Over a month later and no response! What is wrong with @github? My guess is they are using AI to ban people and are extremely negligent in their review process. But I don't know for sure.
