The documents attached to this post pertain to the remuneration of Man City’s former manager, Roberto Mancini. They show that Mancini was being paid for two different roles. The first was his compensation as manager of Man City, paid by Man City in their own accounts. The second was compensation for a consulting role to Al Jazira Sports and Cultural Club in the UAE. Supposedly, a few days’ work for millions.

What the documents show me is that the compensation for the consulting role was, in reality, additional compensation pertaining to his Man City role that was being paid off the books.

You can see from the documents attached:
1. Both contracts were authorised and signed on the same day, by the same person (the signatures match).
2. The General (legal) Counsel of Man City (Simon Cliff) admitting in an email that the consultancy arrangement was ended when Man City “renegotiated his MCFC salary arrangement in July 2012”, showing the indelible link between the consulting arrangement and Mancini’s Man City compensation package.
3. Cliff writing in another email that “I am not sure what leverage we have with them these days” in relation to the ability to influence Al Jazira Sports and Cultural Club to sign a document they wanted them to sign. This implies they did have “leverage” in the past.
4. Man City’s Head of Finance (Andrew Widdowson) arranging for the consultancy agreement to be paid by the club’s owner (ADUG). Again, clear evidence that Man City managed the payment of the consultancy agreement and that it was not an independent contract.
5. An email to Man City’s COO (Graham Wallace) from Mancini’s agent, asking him to have the consultancy contract invoice paid. Further evidence of the connection between the consultancy agreement and Man City.
6. An email from Wallace to Widdowson asking him to arrange for Man City’s owner (ADUG) to pay Al Jazira in relation to the consultancy agreement for Mancini. More evidence of Man City’s connection to it.
7. An email from Wallace to Simon Pearce (MCFC Board director and key advisor to the ruler of UAE) again confirming the need for ADUG to pay Al Jazira to pay for Mancini’s contract. More evidence of Man City’s connection to it.

There is no reason for anyone at Man City to be involved in the consulting agreement or its payment if it was a legitimate, arm’s length, third party contract. The evidence supports the stance that this was not an independent contract and was instead, a payment in relation to his work at Man City, which supports the charges against the club for improperly reporting play remuneration and failure to accurately report its financial statements.
