Awesome to see my first op-ed for The Washington Post land on the front page in today’s Sunday Opinion.
The debate on AI is too often framed as a false choice between utopia and apocalypse. Either machines will save us or they’ll destroy us. My piece argues for something different: realism. AI isn’t a sci-fi god or demon. It’s a general-purpose technology that will disrupt, augment, and, like electricity or the internet before it. AI will reshape how we live and work. It won't eliminate life, but create a more thriving one.
Fear isn’t a strategy, and neither is magical thinking. What we need is clear-eyed optimism: policy grounded in history, humility about what intelligence really is, and confidence that human ingenuity can never be replaced.
