Fernando Mendoza grew up about a mile from University of Miami's campus.

His dad and the U's Head Coach, Mario Cristobal, were teammates in high school. It was at that same school, Christopher Columbus High School, where Fernando led his team to a state championship.

Which he turned down, taking less money as well as what he thought was (1) overall a better fit, (2) better coaching and (3) better development. All three have come to fruition while up in Bloomington.
