The Embakasi gas refilling point that burned last night, was unlicensed and illegal. That’s why the Kenya Police have arrested the poor security guard who was protecting the property. The owners have the weekend to meet and bribe whoever they have been bribing, and cover their tracks.
The court will also give them anticipatory cash bail, to ensure they never see the inside of a police cell. The company will be dissolved to escape liability, and the same owners will register a new company and move on to another location. They will be given licenses by their friends in power.
Meanwhile, the case will drag on for years in the courts, and after Kenyans have forgotten about it and moved on, the greedy individuals who caused this tragedy will be quietly acquitted. The Head of State will follow by giving them state commendations for their generous donation to his re-election kitty, and maybe even reward them with a cushy government job - like Chairperson of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
Ladies and gentlemen, that's how Kenya works. Ever heard of a contractor, or building owner, convicted for a collapsed building? This country doesn't jail rich people, even if they commit mass murder. Kenyan jails are built exclusively for poor people.
When we shout 'Stop killing women', we don't mean start killing men. We acknowledge that all lives matter, and at this moment, we are advocating for our mothers and sisters to stop being killed. We are meant to co-exist and not compete. #EndFemicideKE#TotalShutDownKE
