Bringing this great post up from the replies. So much of heterosexual propaganda centers on the idea that a man's behavior must be the responsibility of a woman, and if he behaves badly then she didn't love him enough. That (false) thinking encourages women to try harder, give more, labor more and overfunction to make up for a man's deficits, in the believe that all her sacrifice (or control) will "pay off" with his behavioral change and more love.

Men are taught this falsehood too: That "the love of a good woman" is the only thing that will change their behavior, and if their behavior does not change, then the woman isn't good. This shifts the locus of control for a man's behavior onto the woman and creates the groundwork for men to refuse to be accountable or responsible for their own actions.

As this excellent post below points out, a man's behavior is his responsibility and his alone. Partners should be supportive to each other but that does NOT mean they can or should control each other's behavior. The "dreamgirl" myth is highly destructive to both women and men.
