the first major article on CO2 fertlization was in mid-1980s by LaMarche and Graybill, who attributed higher growth rates of high-altitude stripbark bristlecone pines to CO2 fertilization. These stripbark bristlecones were then given fantastically high weights in the well known Mann hockey stick under Mann's notorious short-centered "principal" components. Even after the problems with stripbark bristlecone data were pointed out, by then the paleoclimate community was addicted to results from these "proxies" and they have continued in use in PAGES2K to this day.

I had coffee meetings with two of the debaters: George Monbiot and Nigel Lawson. Both very cordial.

While Fox was in Toronto, Eric Shawn did a long interview with me, excerpts later shown in a Fox special. I was extremely impressed with the quality and thoughtfulness of Shawn's interviewing and with the thoroughness of the producer's preparation - they had taken the trouble to ask me some questions that showed knowledge of my particular interests.

This was almost the high water mark of climate hysteria. Times have changed.

Ethically and practically, it very much looks like reckless or intentional misrepresentation for financial gain.

The firms knew the scenario was highly questionable, yet they kept selling it as credible risk intelligence because it was profitable.

This is one of the ugliest parts of the entire RCP 8.5 saga: the science became corrupted, and then it was monetized.

The combination of ideological capture and financial incentives created a perfect storm.
