The native tribes safeguarding the Yasuní rainforest triumphed over the powerful oil companies. Ecuador has become the first global nation to halt oil extraction through direct climate democracy!

The data from an unprecedented referendum held the day before indicate that almost 60% of the inhabitants chose to safeguard the Yasuní rainforest. By delegating the decision on extraction projects directly to the Ecuadorian people, and not to politicians, who are influenced by oil capital, we managed to achieve one of the most relevant climate triumphs against the fossil fuel sector!
