The timeline is not complicated and I am done pretending it requires any further investigation to understand what happened.

On January 10, 2017, according to a court filing by my attorney @SidneyPowell1 , James Clapper made a phone call to Washington Post columnist David Ignatius directing him, in words to the effect of, "take the kill shot on Flynn." Two days later, Ignatius published a column disclosing the contents of my legally intercepted phone calls with Ambassador Kislyak and the machine that had been built to destroy me and my family lurched into motion.

Leaking those transcripts was a serious felony.

An egregious federal crime, committed by people with security clearances, committed against an incoming National Security Advisor, committed for the explicit purpose of kneecapping a president before he ever set foot in the Oval Office.

Here is the question that has never been asked loudly enough and I am asking it now. David Ignatius did not operate in a vacuum. He was not some lone columnist who stumbled onto a classified intercept by accident. He had cultivated sources across official Washington for decades and some of those sources were not in the outgoing Obama administration. Some were sitting inside the incoming Trump transition.

I am not naming names in this post. But I am stating plainly and for the record that there are individuals who held positions inside that transition, who maintained regular contact with Ignatius, and who have never once been placed under oath and asked what they knew, what they communicated, and when they communicated it.

The kill shot did not fire itself. Someone inside what was supposed to be our own team made sure that Ignatius had what he needed, when he needed it, to pull the trigger. Someone made certain that the investigation that followed went absolutely nowhere. Every one of them has a name, a phone record, and a paper trail. Accountability doesn’t expire.

Trust that there is a Grand Jury coming for you.

They keep telling us American slavery was “unlike anything that had existed in the world before.” That line was always doing a lot of heavy lifting, and it collapses the second you open a history book that isn’t written for a Netflix special.

Slavery wasn’t invented in Virginia. It was already old news in Babylon, where legal codes spelled out how to sell people into bondage for debt and how to brand or blind the ones who tried to run. Aristotle called it “natural.” In Athens and Sparta roughly one in four people lived as someone else’s property, and the condition was hereditary.

The Romans turned it into industrial-scale entertainment ... open torture, arena games against wild animals. Even the supposedly uniquely savage Caribbean plantations of the 1700s apparently weren’t quite as inventive in their cruelty as pre-Christian Rome managed on a regular Tuesday.

By the time Europeans showed up in the New World, large-scale slavery was already running in Egypt and Sudan, and North African ports were busy auctioning white Europeans who had been snatched from ships and coastal towns. The Barbary trade alone took over a million of them between the 1500s and 1700s.

Meanwhile the trans-Saharan routes were moving people for thirteen centuries ... longer than the entire history of the United States ... and the death toll on those marches made the Middle Passage look almost restrained by comparison.

Cities in Southeast Asia had majority-slave populations. India had more slaves in the 1800s than the entire Western Hemisphere combined. The Ottoman Empire kept the practice going for half a millennium after the American colonies were founded.

So when someone insists this particular version of human bondage was historically unprecedented in its brutality, the obvious question is: compared to what, exactly? Which non-Western slave system are we pretending was gentler, more enlightened, or less hereditary? Or is the uniqueness claim only required to stay true inside a very narrow set of approved facts?

The part that actually doesn’t show up much in the current telling is that America also produced, almost from the beginning, a serious internal movement to get rid of the whole thing. Most of the planet at the time still treated slavery as background noise. That tension ... having the institution and the domestic fight to end it ... is what made the American story different.

Everything else was just business as usual across human history.
