This brings back two painful memories when I, an Eastern European, went on a design internship in the US:

- I thought I was absolutely crushing it cause my boss kept telling me 'It's a great start!'

- I was invited to another team's design crit. When asked what I thought about the direction, I said, 'I don't think this is very good.'
The whole room went silent, and the lead designer was like, "Oh".
