KANAYA MARYAM'S FINEST HOUR
A video essay about Kanaya the meddler, and that one time she meddled.
This is my first time doing something like this. Please be nice.

A couple of weeks ago, I found myself thinking about a scene from Homestuck that I really love.
So I wrote an entire video essay about it.
This is my first time doing this kind of thing, so the process is going a bit slow, but I'm hoping it'll be out by the end of the week.
Kanaya often being seen as just a third wheel and a mediator for other people’s relationships in her friend group and then having Rose be so insanely into her and wanting just her means something 2 me
June Egbert being boxed into the role of a masculine role model and main character is not gender affirming. It's suffocating! Does she really seem happy to you???
"Character was groomed by their peer(s)/guardian(s) or otherwise pressured into performing a specific gender role in society" is a fairly common point of commentary in fiction, but there is this confounding tendency from audiences to view that as gender affirming for some reason?
It is, textually, crystal clear that Roxy's relationship with his femininity is an adversarial one made out of societal pressure and obligation, that his need to be a wife and kiss boys comes out of a need to fill that void with the only thing he knows.
