This is why I always maintain Ronaldo is the GOAT.

You can argue about who the better footballer is. That’s a football debate, and everyone will have their reasons.

But “greatest” goes beyond pure football ability.

Greatness is about the size of your legacy. It’s about the lives you inspired, the standards you set, the records you left behind, the longevity, the consistency, the influence across generations, and the impact you had on the sport itself.

Ronaldo didn’t just dominate an era. He changed what people believed was physically and mentally possible in football. He redefined professionalism, discipline, and self-belief. He became the blueprint for millions of young players around the world.

There are players who entertained us. There are players who amazed us. Then there’s Cristiano Ronaldo, who made an entire generation believe that relentless work could take you to the very top.

Look at the numbers. The all-time leading goalscorer. Success in England, Spain, Italy, and with Portugal. Five Champions Leagues. A European Championship. A Nations League. Countless individual awards. Nearly two decades of performing at the highest level.

But even those achievements don’t fully explain his greatness.

His influence extends far beyond trophies. Walk into almost any country in the world and ask a child to name a footballer. Cristiano Ronaldo will almost always be one of the first names mentioned. Millions copied his celebration, his haircut, his free-kick stance, his mentality, his work ethic. He became more than a footballer, he became a global sporting icon.

That’s the difference.

The best is about ability.

The greatest is about the totality of what you represent to the game.

For me, no footballer has combined elite performance, longevity, worldwide influence, consistency, commercial appeal, inspiration, and an unmatched winning mentality quite like Cristiano Ronaldo.

That’s why I call him the GOAT. 🐐
