Today’s the day.
Love on Wheels is officially out.
James and Sarah’s story is now yours.
Thank you to everyone who’s supported this one from the first draft to today.

After months of writing, rewriting and arguing with myself (mostly), I've just finished the final draft of This Time Around.
Turns out Ben finally remembered how to sing.
And thankfully, I eventually remembered how to write. 🎸

Plot vs character writing — which comes first?
For me, it depends on the story. Sometimes I’ve got the plot but no person. Sometimes I’ve got the character but no structure.
Whichever shows up first, I follow it.

@Mark_Z_Spot I've never thought of it like that, but it's true but I always start a new project asking myself one question what if all my story start with what if?
I thought I was writing a story about survivor’s guilt and music.
Turns out I’m actually writing about a man who’s spent 15 years making himself emotionally smaller.
Funny how novels reveal what they’re really about while you’re writing them.

Been a bit quiet on here lately after taking a week off feeling rough.
Back at the desk today trying to get back into This Time Around.
Let’s see if Ben remembers how to practise… or more importantly if I remember how to write. 🎸

Back at the desk today for the first time since Vegas.
Let’s see if Ben can remember how to sing… because right now I’m not convinced either of us can. 🎸

Most writers can write a strong opening. Far fewer finish.
Finishing a book as a writer matters more than chasing perfection — especially early on.
If you’re stuck polishing chapter one again… this is for you.

Midnight Arcade were building a second album before everything stopped.
Unreleased tracks, evolving live sets, and a record that was never finished.

Back at the desk for the first time in a couple of weeks after being ill and hitting a lovely bit of writer’s block.
A couple of hours in and I’ve decided the entire manuscript is going in the bin. Starting again.
Apparently Chapter 12 was my limit. 🎸

Still working on the next book, but Love on Wheels is the one that’s out in the world right now.
And I’m proud of it.

Hoping Ben and the rest of the cast behave themselves today… but I wouldn’t bet on it. 🎸

Now that Love on Wheels is out, I’ve started drafting the next novel: This Time Around.
Different tone. Same obsession with character.
Early days — but here’s a first look.
More soon.

Every book starts with one sentence.
Here’s how I go about turning ideas into stories — from a simple “what if?” to a fully shaped narrative with direction and emotional weight.

Still strange seeing Love on Wheels selling in different countries.
For a small indie release, that never stops feeling surreal.

One thing I wanted with Love on Wheels was a disabled character who felt real, not perfect.
That was the whole point of the story.

Fifteen years ago, Midnight Arcade were building momentum on the indie circuit.
A debut album, a genre chart No.1 single, a second record in progress — and then the crash.
A measured retrospective on the band’s rise and what followed.
