If you don’t get a check but receive instead a direct reduction on your property taxes, then you have a STAR exemption. If you have an exemption, and you’re 65 and older, then you have until March 1 to apply for the “enhanced” exemption.

The first thing to do is to figure out whether you’re getting a credit or an exemption. If you’re receiving a check from the STAR program every year, you’re receiving a credit and there is nothing you need to do at this time.
