New Year, new term! As I took the oath of office for my second term as Council Member for District 14 in the Bronx, I couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible body of work we have been able to accomplish in our first two short years.
It feels like the Bronx is burning again.
The question for us as policymakers is can we look at ourselves in the mirror + confidently say that we are maximizing our resources + doing everything possible to address these fatal trends?

Three years ago, @NYCCouncil passed CityFHEPS expansion.
Since then, not a single NYer has benefitted.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani has an opportunity – and a duty – to end this now.

Thank you @CMPiSanchez for your sustained advocacy for CityFHEPS expansion and commitment to New Yorkers. This law was meant to prevent evictions & move families into permanent housing, and years later, implementation is still pending. https://t.co/lGYTIlBrYz
Since becoming Chair of the Housing & Buildings Committee, I have called for NY to confront the housing crisis in its full complexity.

My heart hurts for the neighbor we lost at 226 W Tremont overnight. My prayers and love to this family.
The Bronx is burning, again. @FDNY shared fires have doubled in outer boros in just 3 yrs. We know, we feel it. 💔
I urge @NYCMayor, let’s address root causes, save lives.
Horrified, heartbroken by the deadly shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego. Islamophobia took these lives, and the normalization of this hate will continue to put communities in danger. I hold this community in prayer. No one should fear for their safety for simply being.
NYC is facing overlapping crises of affordability, housing instability, public safety + public health, and I'm encouraged to see several meaningful investments reflected in the Mayor’s Executive Budget proposal.
I look forward to digging into the details in the weeks ahead. 👇👇
Run the Bronx is always a great reminder to show up for each other.
Whether that’s checking in on a fellow runner during the 5k or a neighbor in your day-to-day—together, the Bronx is resilient.
Grateful to have joined @BCCcuny and connect with you all!
Talking economic justice w/ @DMJulieSu means:
💰 Implementing street vending reform
🏰 Advancing the Kingsbridge Armory redevelopment
🏪 Supporting small biz on our commercial corridors
I'm excited to continue our partnership to bring economic development opportunities to D14!
Respectfully, @GovKathyHochul, CityFHEPs presently houses MORE New Yorkers than shelter, at a fraction of the cost.
The path to a balanced NYC budget is moving MORE families into permanent homes—not continuing to warehouse them in shelters that traumatize and destabilize people.
On May 5, Council Member P. Sanchez and a broad coalition of street vendors, immigrant advocates, supermarkets, bodegas, Business Improvement Districts, Chambers of Commerce, and public space advocates released the following joint statement.

.@CMPiSanchez is a strong partner of ours and present at every emergency scene in her district, assisting her constituents. Thanks to her for helping us prepare NYers!
Council Member @CMPiSanchez is right — preparedness is everyone's responsibility. From the Bronx to every corner of the five boroughs, the strongest response to an emergency starts with informed, ready New Yorkers. Build a Go Bag with the essentials, make a plan with your household, and subscribe to @NotifyNYC for real-time alerts about what's happening in your neighborhood. 🔔 https://t.co/KxYXYC5uA1
The more we wait, the more New Yorkers will be impacted.
The @NYCMayor must drop the appeal, come to an agreement, and fund the expansion of CityFHEPS in the FY27 budget.

New Yorkers deserve stable, dignified housing—and CityFHEPS is one of the most effective tools we have to deliver that.
Today I was joined by dozens of advocates, affected tenants, and NYC Council colleagues to call for CityFHEPS expansion.
Since the Council passed these laws, more than 💫 42,000 evictions have taken place—an estimated 25,000 of which could have been prevented 💫—while thousands remain in shelter, unable to access a permanent home.
Proud to stand with my colleagues today to call on the Mayor to expand CityFHEPS, the voucher program helping people experiencing homelessness find permanent housing. CityFHEPS helps people stay in their homes and saves the city a LOT of money compared to shelters.
