🚨 NEW: West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway will be nationalised from Sunday

Socialist Andrea Egan has won the race to become the next general secretary of Unison, Britain's biggest trade union.
Egan beat incumbent Christina McAnea, an ally of prime minister Keir Starmer, by 60% to 40% in a vote of union members. She will begin her five-year term in January.
Egan’s election marks the first time that a lay member of the union - rather than a paid official - has been elected general secretary.
In a statement following her victory, Egan said: “This result means ordinary Unison members are at long last taking charge of our union.
“We will put faith in members’ decisions and stand up to any employer, politician or cabinet minister who acts against our interests."
Egan plans to put Unison on a more confrontational footing with employers, pledging to get the union “strike-ready”, to launch a benchmarking exercise of successful industrial action from other unions, and to shift resources to ensure the union can run successful ballots.
She has also been a critic of Labour under Starmer. Egan was expelled from the party in 2022 for sharing two articles from Socialist Appeal, a proscribed Marxist group, despite the group not having been proscribed when she shared the first article. She never received a response to her appeal.
Jeremy Corbyn, former Labour leader and co-founder of new leftwing party Your Party, said: “As a Unison member, it was my pleasure to support Andrea. She will be a voice for all members, and will fight for the fairer society they deserve.”
Comrades recently organised the Red October Day School in order to celebrate the legacy of the Great October Socialist Revolution in Russia, 1917.
During the day, comrades heard from a variety of speakers on topics ranging from liberalism to the housing crisis. We also had a 1/

We need safe staffing levels in care homes to be enshrined in law.
Today, the 4th of October, marks the anniversary of the legendary Battle of Cable Street.
On this day in 1936, the East End of London rallied to the call - led by communists, socialists and trade unionists - to ‘Stop Mosley' and his Blackshirted fascists. They rallied, facing down the fascist thugs and the police.
It was not the first major confrontation nor the last. But it was the decisive engagement from which Mosley never recovered.
It is a proud chapter in the history of our Party and it’s leading role in the fight against fascism in Britain and internationally between the wars.
It is a proud chapter in the history of Britain’s working people and trade union movement.
Each year, communists call on working people to commemorate and study the lessons of this event and to redouble our efforts to fight racism and struggle for unity in the face of ruling class attempts to divide us.
In 2025, at a time when the forces of the far right are on the rise across Britain and the world, sponsored by the rich and powerful, the fight against racism and fascism is more pressing than ever.
They did not pass in 1936.
They shall not pass in 2025!

YCL and Communist Party comrades were out in force at this year's Burston Strike Rally, celebrating the longest strike in history. We heard from leading Trade unionists, left comedians and some community music too!
BURSTON 2025
Join the Communist Party and Young Communist League East of England at this year's Burston. We will be celebrating the longest strike in history, where school pupils walked out in protest of the unfair dismissal of their teachers Kitty and Tom Higdon.
From myself in today's @M_Star_Online:
"Millions of ordinary English people of all backgrounds consider the cross their own — abandoning it, and its left-wing history that includes the peasants’ revolt, concedes vital ground to the right."

Last month, comrades from the East of England Branch of the Young Communist League met together to discuss the past year of struggle and lay a new path for the revolutionary struggle in the next year.
The Communist Party sends greetings and solidarity to all of the comrades of the YCL travelling down to London this weekend for the 52nd Congress of the Young Communist League!
The YCL is the future of the Party and the Party is the future of the YCL!
Join the struggle today!
It's not racist to fly your flag. It's not racist to to celebrate your culture...
However, when you shout "r#g head", to a woman as she walks past with a scared child, all in front of another child, who is watching in, learning this crap, yer nothing but fascist f#cking scum!
Pathetic spin from Starmer.
Here he is, lined up with other European leaders like children as Trump holds court - begging him to continue the slaughter in Ukraine.
A Coalition of the Grovelling.
Communists say Britain should have an independent foreign policy based on peace.
