i agree that obsession was mid but i did prefer it to backrooms. i think obsession had 1/10th of the budget too if i’m not mistaken. still
impressive for both of these movies to have done so well in the box office given their smaller budgets!
tbh i think we’re just so starved for original content that we’re overhyping anything that deviates from norm
ending was good, i liked the uncertainty.
i think the missing piece for me was her not having her own psychological monster to face in the backrooms. it didn’t make sense for the climax to be her escaping her patient’s demon. i think i would have liked it a LOT more if she had her own monster to conquer and because she was a therapist she would have been more equipped to fight it off, i don’t know. it was missing something imo
generally i don’t enjoy found-footage films so it was off to a rough start for me there. other than that i thought the filming and creative choices were pretty good.
my issue is with the storyline, just felt half-baked. i wish they either would have went harder into the horror/monster stuff or much harder into the psychological side. neither side felt fully developed to me and i feel it was a bit overhyped.
before reading this tweet to my fiance i had to preface it by saying “i think this is a parody account…” and honestly how fucked up is it that we can’t be 100% sure anymore

One of the most horrific forms of psychological torture that Palestinian prisoners are subjected to inside prisons:
The Israeli abductors told Shadi Abu Sido, a Palestinian prisoner from Gaza, that his family and children had been bombed and killed.
They left him to live through the agony of loss, broken under the weight of believing that his family had been wiped out.
But when he was released, the greatest shock awaited him; he found his family and children alive.
