@tavishsharma15 I think my main reason is just because of the club level of our players each World Cup. Every single World Cup the expectations raise because our players play at a higher club level. We’ve never in our history had this many players in Europes top leagues as we do now.
I understand that tonight was not the best night for US Men’s Soccer. But the people not being hopeful for the sports future are the people who have zero understanding of this sport in our this country.
Every year we improve and there’s no denying that. The vibes going into this game against Belgium are significantly different than the vibes in 2014 and they will continue to go in that direction.
People that do not understand what this country is building and will continue to build are just people who don’t actually watch the sport and are larping as if they are fans and care. We are going to lose matches, we are going to be the underdog for a while longer, but to deny improvement and a level change is to watch this sport with your eyes closed.
I’m not proud of our performance by any means but I’m proud to say we have come a long way and will continue in this direction until we are a contender. Mark my words. Sometime in the next 20 years we will be a real threat in these tournaments (I hope).
@tavishsharma15 I’d say the feeling you have going into the match is a good way to describe it, and the level of play individually throughout a club year, and the way we look in the group stage. Until this game I thought we looked the best we’ve ever looked at a World Cup.
To deny our individual players positions for club and the difference from now and each World Cup prior is not a proper stance. Not only have we grown a ton but we used to not have academy football in this country and not only do we have them now, but the level has improved greatly. I’m optimistic for a reason, and for the same reason I came into this game thinking that if we played well we could win. As opposed to years ago when Tim Howard had to keep us in a game that should’ve been an absolute demolition
@PerryGPapa It’s literally going to happen one day. Our country is massive, the sport keeps growing, our players continue to break into higher level squads. The optimism is not misplaced.
Literally wrong and dumb. Every four years more of our players are playing in higher level sides in Europe and our academies are improving vastly and compete with European sides academies more consistently. It is only a matter of time before we produce higher level talent and have more players competing at a higher level. To not have faith now is pure delusion or at the very least, shows a lack of understanding of the transformation this country has gone through in the last 10 years.
@PerryGPapa Yes but we are still not necessarily supposed to win, we can win but that’s not the same. Our team continues to improve every four years and I will take that.
No I don’t honestly, yesterday I was at an English bar and myself and everyone there immediately knew it was a red. Too reckless and could’ve broken the guys leg so if that were to be overturned I’d be shocked. And the US red makes a lot more sense to overturn I just would never expect it to happen. Like the amount of times over the years I’ve said “this red needs to be overturned later on, what a bad call”, it blows up on social media for how bad of a call it was, then the overturn is denied.
If they were consistent I wouldn’t mind at all and I promise I’m happy about the result of the overturn. But it’s just not something that happens in circumstances like this
The Balogun red card was almost certainly the wrong call and the overturn is definitely corrupt. But people saying Balogun should turn down the opportunity to play out of sportsmanship are legitimately too far gone 😭
It was a definite foul, also definitely a harsh red. But you don’t see reds overturned like that very often after the match unless the call was actually horrendous. Like this call was poor but I’ve never seen something like this overturned. That and not to mention FIFA is corrupt and Trump is also corrupt. So him reaching out and us happening to get the decision is not surprising at all. Normally most fans would expect that we lose the appeal. Thats the main issue.
@C0ltFR Not ones like this and they also don’t happen all the time. As much as I’d love for the red to be overturned and I’m happy for it overall. The only time a red gets overturned is when the call is a full error.
