Matt Rhule said, "The best coaches listen. The best coaches ask questions. The best coaches create conversation."
"It takes a confidence to be a great coach."
It means communication, connection, and knowledge.
Great coaches = great teachers.
Quarterback Coaching in the most “effective” form:
First Do No Harm
It’s never about u and your fancy drills and terminology and “look at me” mentality ( Coach)
They (QBs) are all different… start them all the same and adjust … What works for one to be his greatest version of himself isn’t what makes another their greatest version. Adjust
Call plays for them and team ( not for your satisfaction to show how smart u are )
Whenever a “Guru” says u aren’t preparing them for the NFL… laugh hard at their ignorance and ego, build a gigantic wall to keep them away from your QB and the qb parents…Remember your job is to make them the best version of themselves to help the team win… if the NFL morons ever understood this they’d all become “Andy Reid and the Chiefs and win Super Bowls( see Reid studying Mahomes TxTech film to learn to do what he does best” but instead they want the world to believe that every failure of every NFL qb is because his high school and college coach “didn’t prepare him for the NFL…This is the pure definition of “losers”…Stick to your guns and be a great teacher…If he’s good enough the NFL will come calling and if he becomes great they will take the credit and if he’s a bust they will blame his high school and college coach “LOSERS”
Admit when you’re wrong…We will all choose the wrong starter, call the wrong play, and be critical when we should praise… Why? Because we are human…See when u made the wrong decision and immediately correct it… Apologize when appropriate
Never get bored with repetition … Same details, drills, and reps ( repetition is the mother of skill)
Fight for and protect your qb because he will be unmercifully criticized… Always give him credit for success publicly and take blame for his failure
The best of all time make what can be complicated very simple…Be great… make it simple
Together with our state legislators, the Miss. IHL Board of Trustees and staff, Department of Finance and Administration and other partners, we’re building a better future for Alcorn. #AlwaysLeading#AlwaysAlcorn
Throwback to when Alcorn State QB Steve McNair broke Ty Detmer’s record for the most career total offense yards in NCAA history during a game against Southern in 1994. 🪓🔥
He totaled 649 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 41-37 comeback win over the Jaguars .
You shouldn't have to beg a player for energy, effort, or unselfishness.
If they're serious about winning, they'll just do these things.
– Jeff Van Gundy
One of the most important aspects of a coach is patience. You are going to have to repeat yourself many times. Players don’t always get it right away. Some take longer than others. Remind yourself to be patient with players and to not give up on them.
There’s nothing “advanced” about great coaching.
It’s the same fundamentals…
repped daily…
with purpose.
Most coaches get bored before their players get good.
