There's a nursery somewhere in Tulsa that's already painted. A car seat that's already installed. A name, Sawyer, that Kayla and John had already whispered to each other a hundred times before anyone else knew it.
They never got to meet her.

Kayla Saager Beckley was 30 years old, just months from becoming a mother for the first time, when a brain aneurysm took her without a single warning sign, on a Wednesday morning like any other. No symptoms. No time to say goodbye. Kayla and her daughter, Sawyer, were both gone before anyone understood what was happening — a wife, a daughter, a friend, and the baby girl the whole family had already started loving.

Before any of that, Kayla was the girl from East Islip who played like every game mattered because to her, it did. She became one of the fiercest strikers Binghamton University has ever seen. She built a second life coaching the sport she loved, met her husband John along the way, and followed him to Tulsa to start their forever. They had barely three months as newlyweds.

On September 22nd, the East Islip Varsity Girls Soccer Team will take the field in her honor: young girls who may not have known her, playing anyway, because some stories are too important not to carry forward.

We can't undo what happened to Kayla and Sawyer. But a brain aneurysm can go completely undetected until it's too late — and awareness, screening, and research are the only things standing between another family and this exact grief. That's why Kayla's family and friends are asking you to give in their memory.
