Drew Brees believes he would not have made the hall of fame if it weren't for a film session in 2003 where Marty Schottenheimer told him to stop making excuses
“I’ll never forget a film session in 2003. I was coming off a tough game. As we watched the tape together, Coach asked me the question…”
“‘Hey, why didn’t you throw to this receiver?’ ‘He was wide open.’ My response was… ‘I couldn’t see him.’ The tape paused. There was a moment of silence. Coach glared at me and said… It’s your job to see.’”
“You reach a point in your career when you stop making excuses. It’s usually a moment or an event where you flip a switch. Or make a very conscious decision. And it becomes part of your being. Coach was right.”
“And never again would those words or thoughts come out of my mouth. I would need to find a way to play the game a little bit different. Even if it was in a way that had not been done before.”
@CoachYashinsky@WilsonFootball Wilson’s product keeps getting worse every year. We can create amazing things in our world now, but we haven’t figured how to keep bladders from leaking air in footballs? Or is the mandate on playoff game balls by state associations not forcing these companies to work at it? 🤔
Marcus Freeman shares why "leading by example" isn't enough.
"We don't love leaders by example. Because leaders by example are guys that do what they're told to do, they do everything they're asked, right?"
"But they don't say things when their teammates aren't reaching the standard. We can't have that."
Real leadership isn't just performing at the standard. It's protecting the standard.
"We need more leaders. Guys that are willing to hold their teammates accountable because it's gonna make your teammate better."
Accountability isn't about being hard on people. It's about caring enough to not let them settle.
"I wanna make everybody in our organization the best they possibly can be. So if I let you cut corners or I don't say something to you when you're falling under the standard, then I'm not helping push you to the best you can be."
Leading by example is the baseline. Leading with accountability is the standard.

“Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep.”
Psalm 36:5-6
🌶️ Hot take…
If your son or daughter gets upset because you have them leave their phone in the kitchen to charge so they can get 7–9 hours of uninterrupted sleep, that’s okay.
If they’re frustrated because you expect them to prepare tomorrow’s breakfast, snacks, lunch, or sports bag instead of spending more time on video games, that’s okay too.
Parenting isn’t about making your kids happy every moment of every day. It’s about preparing them for adulthood.
Kids need structure. They need boundaries. They need responsibility. Most of all, they need parents who care enough to have the hard conversations and hold them accountable, even when it’s unpopular.
The goal isn’t to raise children who avoid discomfort it’s to raise adults who can handle it with confidence and resilience.
The world won’t always be accommodating. Teaching responsibility, self-discipline, and healthy habits at home gives them a safe place to learn life’s lessons before the stakes get higher.
Your children may not always thank you in the moment, but one day they’ll appreciate the values that helped them become capable, independent adults.
Sometimes the most loving thing a parent can do is choose what’s best over what’s easiest. Lead by example👍
It was a busy summer. I've been working out with my new team @ACJaguarFB, picked up a D2 offer, lots of camps, and time catching up with my family.
Grateful for every bit of it.
