As we wrap up our second-to-last week of workouts, we’re saying thanks to another group of influential VIPs that included Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation President and CEO Steve Salem (SPA ‘84), the Honorable Gerald Lee (BOT, SOC ‘73, WCL ‘76), Senior VP of Innovation and Strategy at Radian, Steve Gaenzler (KSB ‘92), and retired political science professor Mehdi Heravi (BOT, SIS ‘68).

Our amazing docent took our team through stories of slavery, resistance, resilience, achievement and impact, ending with a look at the important role of sports in Black history and culture.

As part of our VIP Summer Visit Series, we welcomed Chief Judge Jeb Boasberg of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, U.S. District Judge Casey Cooper, and Michael Barry, new Dean of AU’s Washington College of Law.

The conversation centered on leadership, integrity, public service and navigating difficult decisions—valuable lessons that extend well beyond the basketball court.
