In 2023, it was FOUR HUNDRED PERCENT more likely for a fired white coach to get replaced by a white coach than it was for a fired black coach to get replaced by a black coach.
400% is not a # to just brush aside! 🙏🙏
I hope AD’s and search firms do some serious soul searching.
For quite a while most Presidents and Boards have sought AD’s who are by-the-book managers not leaders.
NIL has really exposed the flaw in this trend because it’s kinda tough to follow the book in a bookless era.
One can only hope that maybe they’ll start hiring leaders again.
This isn’t the right angle to disagree with my point.
Players are actually protected by savvy head coaches forcing continuity after a planned retirement.
The better angle of disagreement would have been to ask if it’s a head coach’s place to pull the wool over a school’s eyes.
If you are a longtime high achieving head coach who decides to retire, be a Dana Altman.
Give that longtime loyal lieutenant the opportunity of a lifetime and a large thank you payday by holding your retirement until October.
Take care of the people who always took care of you.
Fanbases never understand demographic shifts. When PSU was PSU, PA was full of steelworkers’ and miners’ kids who were hard kids. Western PA was so stacked PSU AND Pitt were BOTH national powerhouses. Now Pittsburgh is packed with soft children of health/tech executive yuppies.
@MGRADS You could have snipered that man. You did not need to use 50 shotguns converted into a Gatling Gun, taking 100’s of your followers back to Oct jr yr when some coach told them what the sport had already been trying to show them, which is that they suck at the sport they love 🤣🤣
@dougcrise Yeah, he was open about it. Having a common enemy can create a bond & the worse the enemy the stronger the bond.
Given how he strategically intentionally treated players, I feel sure he created some broken people who don’t laugh when telling the stories, but I haven’t met one.
Skip Bertman’s team building strategy was to make every player hate him so much they had no choice but to love each other.
Many others have deployed this plan, both intentionally & unintentionally, but no one pulled off being both loved & despised quite like Skip.

This is both hilarious and true and it does also depend how long the men’s coach has been there and how big he has won.
I worked for two head coaches who had me go deliver our practice times to the women’s coach, with absolutely no discussion, much less a fight! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The most intense rivalry in small college sports isn’t between two teams 10 miles apart….
It’s between the men’s and women’s basketball programs fighting over who gets the “good” practice time.
What makes the difference between abusive monster & beloved legend is the post-career relationships & memories.
The stories about Skip’s behavior from former players mostly sound incarceratable, but they💩themselves laughing while telling them, which tells me all I need to know.

Thank Mark Emmert, the Gavrilo Princip of college athletics.
Except Princip made only one choice that caused a mass ripple effect of destruction, while Emmert made many, and Princip was a principled revolutionary, while Emmert was a spineless reactionary.
NEWS: A U.S. District Court judge in Colorado has granted a CLASS-WIDE preliminary injunction that requires the NCAA to declare ALL Class of 2022 athletes eligible for a fifth year of eligibility, per @samcehrlich
The floodgates have officially opened... 👀
Many times, coaches have headed to a school to interview fully intent on not taking it if offered, then gotten on campus and changed their minds.
For this reason, and others, were I an AD I would focus my search less on most interested and more on most interesting.
Of all who💩all over Mike Brown (and has a💪following) James is the only real one I found.
Public perception is never perfectly aligned with private reality but there has probably NEVER been a coach with this much respect inside the league receive this much disrespect from fans.
Right now, Big Rick is 100% rainmanning about agitatedly exclaiming:
"This could have been us! I'm an excellent driver! THIS COULD HAVE BEEN US!"
True or False
Danny damn well knows that Big Rick's "congratulatory" text has the approximate sincerity of a moaning prostitute.
When Geno took Pat's cookie, Pat often handled it badly.
But not THIS badly.
I don't need to go to Wikipedia to know that Geno definitely did not have an older brother growing up.
A school down south got their guy and it’s going to surprise some people.
We love surprise hires that are also GREAT hires.
