By no means am I a Man Defense disbeliever. In fact, I think it is essential to the development of all defensive concepts.

With that said, I will never understand how people can deny the value of zone defense. Look at the NBA playoffs and tell me zones aren’t key to winning.

Brad Stevens said at Butler his roster construction philosophy was to find 4 players that if they transferred everyone would want to take them, and then surround them with elite role players.

In that context, seems like for USA Basketball they are primarily relying on these 4 for on-ball initiation: LeBron, KD, Steph, and Ant (2nd unit)

Holiday and White already have experience in this elite role player role. Booker, especially today, looked way more comfortable sliding into a 3&D Klay-type role. Bam and AD feel comfortable knowing how to play on and off the ball in their roles.

Embiid on the other hand has really struggled with this team, having to play differently based on his role/style of play compared to being on the Sixers, and the FIBA rules. Tatum in the exhibitions, and maybe evident from the DNP-CD today, also seemed to be struggling in the off-ball type of role that Booker has embraced. Will be interesting to see how he handles the Olympics if this is the status quo going forward, and how Kerr handles him as well.

Miami’s zone defense was the turning point this game. For all you AAU coaches that REFUSE to teach zone defense principals, I’ve seen 6A state champs, NCAA nat’l champs & NBA teams play zone defense…so it’s ok for your local 4th-8th grade teams to play zone defense too. IJS 🤷🏾‍♂️

The body of Christ in America today is horribly missing it’s mark in terms of discipleship. Obviously our world has become breeding ground for division, and as Christians, are we actively working to mend this gap?

I hope and pray that the world can rediscover the empathy and true discipleship that Jesus displayed. We are sorely missing our mark in walking alongside believers and non-believers and pointing them to truth in a way that is humble and loving.
