@RutgersAltRoute Possibly a focus group/committee who can come up with best practices for accommodations. This group could be used as an aide, especially for new teachers. They could have a list of ideas at their disposal
@sgpamaar@RutgersAltRoute Students. I am lucky to have a paraprofessional who helps the student with the checklist. But this is very helpful when the para is at lunch and I am doing reading groups with other students. Students are able to accomplish independent work at their desks
@RutgersAltRoute I have tried to find the best seating for all students. This took a lot of trial & error but I think we have found a chart that puts all students in a spot where they can succeed. I put checklists on the board. I would like to try and give out more individualized checklists
@RutgersAltRoute A student was mainstreamed into my class mid year. After reading over his IEP, we found it was best to give him visuals and printed to do lists. This helped the student to stay on task and work independently
@RutgersAltRoute HIB can cause all sorts of stress to a child. This could really hinder their ability to learn in the classroom and harm their self esteem
@RutgersAltRoute Setting the expectations with the parents as well as the students. Making sure the parents know how to reach out the more the guidance counselor. My colleagues always do a great job passing along SEL ideas and lessons as well.
@RutgersAltRoute Helping students to understand what bullying is and how it differs from every day conflict. Then explaining the importance of reporting these situations.
@RutgersAltRoute Our guidance counselor is wonderful and she goes over so many different SEL lessons with the kids. I try to emulate off her lessons and will start my mornings with an SEL lesson. Also, always allowing students to go to the guidance counselor when requested
@RutgersAltRoute I wish their was typing in our curriculum and a program to teach it. I think it is a crucial skill and don’t believe it can be taught too young. I wish I had more online resources for teaching students to type
@RutgersAltRoute Something simple but huge for a new teacher like myself is when my team teachers share the unit/lesson folders on google drive. This helps me to see key concepts and questions for the unit/lesson.
@sgpamaar@RutgersAltRoute It can be frustrating. Especially when I figure it out during the lesson :/ now I check on their chromebooks prior if access is restricted
@RutgersAltRoute 3rd grade, Google slides with visually appealing lessons. Keywords and definitions highlighted. Occasionally using online games for extra practice. Informative videos during snack as a review of lessons learned previously
