Life Update:

A few months ago, I was offered and accepted a coaching position back in the MEAC.

Unfortunately, due to the government cutting federal funding to universities and higher education programs, there was a ”hiring freeze” implemented at the school. So I lost out on a job.

Over the last few weeks, I had been talking with a CUSA program. The coach was attempting to find the money to bring me on staff.

Again, now is not the best time for a lot of universities financially. So unsurprisingly, last night I was told it wasn’t going to happen this season.

So that’s that. I won’t be coaching again this season.

I have thought about starting a recruiting service/newsletter. The idea accelerated recently because someone whose opinion I value said: “If you’re going to do people’s jobs for them - you should monetize it.”

I also remember The Joker in The Dark Knight saying: "If you're good at something - never do it for free." Then he asked for half of the mob's money to kill Batman. 😆

That said, I’ve decided I won’t be starting a recruiting service.

My intention with my recruiting posts and watch lists has always been to help get more eyes on guys while I'm outside of coaching.

I’m fortunate to have hundreds of coaches from every level on my Twitter platform and I know people trust my evaluations.

I think it would be selfish if I didn't use my platform to help get kids and programs more exposure.

With that said, I am a college coach. I thrive on the unique challenges presented each season and I've had success in different regions and various levels for over twenty years.

My teams have led the country in scoring, three-pointers made, offensive rebounds, offensive rebound percentage, steals and forced turnover on multiple occasions; and three teams led their respective conferences in scoring defense.

And with all humility, my last three jobs (prep, D2 and D1 programs) were the best coaching I've done in my career.

I've spoken with guys who left coaching to run recruiting services. I've asked them: "You don't miss coaching?" They unanimously said: "No."

That makes no sense to me.

I miss everything about being a college coach: The daily reports from the training staff, conversations with academic support, overseeing weights, supervising conditioning, organizing managerial duties, gathering/breaking down film, designing individual and team workouts around the things we need to improve.

Most importantly, I miss the day to day interactions with my players. I miss the talking s--t in the group chat. And lastly, I miss being a part of the guys maturation as players and people.

That’s my passion.

Anyway, I'm not done. I will be back next season.
