Travel ball tournament this weekend. A parent told a group of 13-14 year olds: “Get in the pitcher’s head. Make fun of him. Make fun of his girlfriend. Whatever it
Amazing what some adults will do to win a youth baseball game.
There’s a difference between guys who can pitch and guys who can throw.
Throwers impress radar guns.
Pitchers win baseball games.
If you don’t know the difference, you’re in the wrong game.
Travel ball Game 1 tonight. Before our 15U game even starts, I’m watching a 14U game where parents are losing their minds over balls and strikes like it’s Game 7 of the World Series. Umpire gave both team warnings.
Summer baseball is officially underway. #LongIslandNY
WOW…….
MLB Draft proposal:
• 12 rounds instead of 20
• No high school players eligible
• Draft eligibility after sophomore year of college
• Must be 20 years old by Sept. 1
I made a post asking travel coaches to put their summer stats on GameChanger.
The response was immediate:
“Only if the stats are accurate.”
Fair enough.
I guess the lesson is this: enjoy the summer stats, but take them with a grain of salt.
Dear Travel Coaches,
One favor from a High School Coach: If you’re using GameChanger, please keep stats updated and available. We’d love to follow our players throughout the summer, see how they’re performing, and track their development.
Thank you.
I’ve already seen coaches fighting with umpires, parents fighting with coaches, and parents fighting with other parents this travel baseball season.
Oddly enough, I haven’t seen many issues with the players.
Makes you wonder who the youth sports experience is really for.
Had our end-of-the-year H.S. Baseball banquet last night. It’s always surreal watching kids come in as freshmen and four years later head off to college.
Don’t take it for granted. Enjoy the players, enjoy the moments, and enjoy the ride.
It goes by faster than you think.
Why I won’t miss coaching travel baseball after (20 years):
8am games.
3+ in a day.
5–6 in a weekend like it’s normal.
Opposing parents.
Opposing coaches chirping.
Stay-to-play money grabs.
Travel costs.
Opposing Pitchers getting overused.
Agree or disagree—my take.
