Incarcerated people are one group for whom we need to pay close attention to #COVID19Vaccine access and keep states and departments of corrections accountable.
@GovBillLee please live by your words: pardon and commute sentences in Tennessee. Permanently stop the executions stalled by COVID-19. #CriminalJusticeReform
OH opening up #COVID19Vaccination to all - but not specifically to incarcerated folks. TN has incarcerated folks in Phase 3 - starting in April. Despite prisons and jails being high risk settings for #COVID19 for the last year+
BREAKING: Virginia's Governor just signed a bill to repeal the death penalty.
This is now the 23rd state to do so.
The rest of the country should not wait any longer.
Vaccination prioritization is about risk of acquiring COVID or having serious complications from COVID. The conditions of incarceration increase risk of both.
As Nashville vastly expands Covid vaccinations today, don't miss this critical reporting about Tennessee's treatment of incarcerated people. https://t.co/6XUDxyNt3O

As described in the case of Ohio, #COVID19 vaccination criteria "donโt deal in virtues and vices." They are "based on risk." Like OH, TN needs to prioritize vaccinating incarcerated individuals based on risk. https://t.co/DD9cH6HLrn
At minimum, incarcerated people should be offered the vaccine when the state gets to their age bracket (70+ currently, 65+ as of March per state guidelines) and not wait for later phases when all incarcerated people are vaccine eligible.
The approved #COVID19 are not yet proven to reduce one's ability to transmit the virus. To protect those living in congregate settings, including in TN prisons and jails, incarcerated people must be vaccinated.

"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly." - MLK #AbolishTheDeathPenalty
I am calling on all Justice Department lawyers and Bureau of Prisons employees โ You do not have to participate in or help facilitate the unjust federal executions scheduled this week. JUST SAY NO!
The U.S. has executed:
-a man who believed he was "Prince of God"
-man who'd lost 20% of his lobe in an accident
- delusional man who lived on pinecones & raw meat
Lisa Montgomery's planned execution next wk is not an aberration - it's part of a pattern.

"understanding our own humanity is a lifelong project, one that just about all of us have the potential to invest in" - Jennifer Lackey on reasons to #AbolishTheDeathPenalty@NUPrisonEd
An excellent op-ed by Jennifer Lackey. There are so many reasons to be against the death penalty; she articulates one of the deepest, most basic reasons here.
