Tuesday evening, water levels stabilized and there were minimal changes overnight. While this is a positive report, river breakup is still occurring and water levels can change quickly.

The Fort McMurray Fire Department (FMFD) is growing and has active postings for training officers, firefighter-paramedics and non-fire trained advanced care paramedics. Applications are also now being accepted for the Firefighter Cadet Program for registered paramedics who do not have fire training.
In total, more than a dozen full-time positions will be recruited this spring.
“It’s an exciting time for the department—we’re moving forward, and we’re looking for people to help us build the future,” said acting Regional Fire Chief Kelly Roberts.

🌡️Due to the extreme today, the Santa Claus Parade and Council’s Starry Night will not go ahead this evening (Saturday, Dec. 6).
Both events are postponed to tomorrow, Sunday, Dec 7, to help keep attendees, parade participants, and staff safe.

The landfill on highway 63 is closed to the public on Wednesday, Sept 27. Emergency crews are responding to a fire at the landfill, so the area is not accessible. The fire is not a threat to the public. Curbside Collection continues today, according to the regular schedule.
