This past weekend the swabs completed the Long Blue Climb and earned their class flag!⚓️⛰️
The official presentation of the class flag to the swabs symbolizes their identity as a class and recognizes their progress during the demanding first weeks of military training.

Rising Soph INF Yadi Karbalaieasghar is spending part of his summer at Coast Guard Station Destin in FL where he’s getting experience in the fleet with search & rescue and law enforcement operations. #BearDown

Hamblett went on to enjoy a 22-year career in the fleet. She was inducted into the CGA Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016, and her contributions to Coast Guard rowing have been honored with a racing shell bearing her name.

Much like classmate Sue Bibeau, Kathy Hamblett (c/o 1980) made her mark on the water, but she starred in a racing shell instead of a dinghy.

In her 4/c year of 1977, Hamblett served as the coxswain for that season’s undefeated lightweight four. She was named captain twice, during the 1978 and 1980 seasons, but her legacy is best felt a a founding member of the women’s rowing program during her 1/c year.

Bibeau went on to a distinguished 30-year career in the Coast Guard, and her athletic accomplishments were awarded in 2015 when she was inducted into the USCGA Athletics Hall of Fame.

Susan Donner Bibeau (c/o 1980) was a three-sport standout during her time at USCGA. She earned letters with the Academy’s inaugural women’s gymnastics and basketball teams, but it was on the waters of the Thames where she shined brightest as a sailor.

During her 1/c year, she was named a team captain, as well as President of the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Sailing Association. That season, Bibeau led the women’s sailing team to 3rd place at New Englands and a trip to the North American Championships.
