The Tories were smashed - and Greens and independents surged.
In dozens of seats, the Greens came a strong second behind Labour.
For the left, there is more grounds for optimism than there has been for years.
Celebrate - and organise.

Harriet Harman condemned Corbyn for standing against Labour (partly, I suspect, because she knows neither her nor any other Labour MP could do the same & win).
Well, Corbyn got a lot more votes than all the Lords put together!
Lots of journalists pointing out (correctly) that the last time we were able to build 300,000+ new homes annually was in the 1950s...
... but none of them are mentioning that it was because councils were building hundreds of thousands of them every year!
Many of the 33.7% who voted for Labour on Thursday will come to regret it, like Clive here.
I hope they're warmly welcomed, encouraged to support, say, the Greens - and not yelled at!
Let's look for converts, not traitors...
To those who say we need "left" Labour MPs for a "seat at the table"
Is Starmer consulting Zara Sultana before shipping bombs to Israel?
Will Reeves call McDonnell to discuss economic policy before the budget?
There is no seat at the table for socialists in Labour. Get out.
Are you going to apologise for legitimising Israeli war crimes on behalf of Keir Starmer now he's snubbed you?
The Greens went from fourth to second place in Emily's constituency - my own - with very little campaigning.
Next time, they can take it.
Imagine an alliance led by Jeremy Corbyn, including the Green Party and - at its most right-wing, Ed Miliband - has just topped an election.
That's what's just happened in France.
Watching 'centrists' in the UK claim this victory as their own is frankly beyond shameless.
Keir "Israel has that right" Starmer could never articulate himself as well as Corbyn does here (with the added bonus of a Harriet Harman meltdown).
He'd be humming, hawing and wondering what his paymasters wanted to hear. Then chat insipid shit.
Another bonus of last week’s elections is that the Labour leadership will now be too scared to purge left wing MPs.
They’ll rightly fear they will win as independents, or defect to the ascendant Greens.
Left wing MPs should use this to their advantage and be much more vocal.
The left alliance led by Melenchon in France has been demonised by French 'centrists' as, among other things, antisemitic, and no better than the far right.
Which is - as you've probably noticed - what they do here.
And Macron in France is, of course, Starmer.
If a news outlet runs a story that the left have won a 'surprise' win and the far right have had a 'shock' defeat, we can ask ourselves, 'surprised who? and 'shocked who?' The answer seems to be themselves as they are the ones who ran a different narrative before.
