First ballot: Carmelo Anthony has been notified that he's been elected into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2025, sources tell ESPN. Anthony made 10 All-Star appearances and six All-NBA teams in 19 seasons to go along with three Olympic gold medals for Team USA.
Despite the insane ending & loss last night, Xfinity was ROCKIN for the Terps🐢
Been a while since Maryland had this level of environment. Maybe the best UMD home game environment I’ve ever seen - still a great day for the program
Lunch Break Thoughts:
Terps just cant win the “prove it” games in my opinion.
When we’re unranked or underrated we win some big games and make everyone say “hey, this maryland team might be legit.”
We beat illinois on the road, indiana on the road, and then wisco at home while we were unranked. Cool.
Then we blow a 17 point lead against OSU the first game we get ranked. This is the first example of losing a “prove it” game for me this year. We get ranked and immediately lose. I dont care that its a conference road game. We got our flowers, got some hype, got ranked, and we blew it…
Then we go on a nice stretch of beating up on some weaker teams in the big 10 (Rutgers, Nebraska, Iowa, USC). Cool.
Nobody should be impressed with any of those wins. Then we get a chance to “prove it” against MSU. We come in at #16 in the country and play the best team in the conference. A chance to really show who we are and “prove” that we can be a legitimate contender in the tournament. What do we do? Play our worst offensive game of the year and lose in devastating fashion at the buzzer.
These are the games that this team needs to figure out a way to win moving forward. Right now, I love this team and i hope we do great things in the conference tournament and then March Madness. But for now, they haven’t proven to me that they can win the big games.
Lets go beat penn state on the road (has been seemingly impossible in recent years for us)
Lets beat #15 Michigan on the road. PROVE to us that you can win these types of games or else I can’t have much optimism for the postseason.
Then finish the season with a senior day win at home and get revenge on Northwestern.
If we win out, I’ll have great hope for us. If we lose to either PSU or NW, we are chalked. If we lose to Michigan on the road, everyone will continue to make excuses for us and say oh michigan is really good and thats a tough conference game on the road. I DONT CARE.
No more excuses. Its time to start winning. No more silver linings from here on out. No more moral victories. Just win.
Lets fucking go Terps, prove to us that you are the team that we all believe you can be…
KEYS TO VICTORY:
1. Win the 3pt line - we shoot way more than them and we make way more at a higher %. If we want to win against this team, the 3pt shots need to fall. JKG, Rice, and Miguel have been hot lately and I want to see that continue. My one critique is that we sometimes have a tendency to get out of our offense and take bad, out of rhythm 3s. I love their confidence though so I won’t make a big deal of it.
2. Compete for every rebound - This MSU team has a lot of size and are fundamentally sound. We must box out and crash the glass on every shot. Really cannot allow offensive rebounds and easy second chance opportunities. If we can win the rebound battle, we can win this game.
3. Energy from the bench - We know our bench isn’t going to score much but we need high energy to keep up with this deep MSU roster. 2-3 big energy plays (blocks, steals, dunks) would be huge for this game. Also just need solid defense from the guys and provide fresh legs to keep up with the constant substitutions that MSU makes.
4. Come out hot and get the Xfinity Center ROCKING - Home court advantage in the spring break capital of the northeast. Not much needs to be clarified there. Come out hot, high energy, fight for loose balls, play tight defense, start the game off by punching them in the face and make them rethink their whole gameplan. Give these fans something to get loud for and the arena will be filled with a tangible energy that can’t be felt anywhere else on the PLANET!
MICHIGAN STATE TEAM BREAKDOWN:
- This team’s depth is a huge advantage, constantly subbing in fresh legs. Offense doesn’t rely on one player and they share the ball well. Not one player stands out as their best player, but everyone can come in and do their job.
- Really good at not allowing teams on huge runs, calm under pressure when a team is on a run.
- Not a great 3pt shooting team but they have some guys that have shown that they can get hot from the outside. Close out and contest 3’s but don’t over-commit and allow players to get by you off the dribble. Can live with this team at the 3pt line.
- They play good defense overall. They sometimes over-commit and leave open shooters and back door cuts to the basket but overall they bring high energy and are disciplined.
- CAN NOT let them get out on fast breaks, they run a solid half court offense but they are most dangerous on the run. They have a lot of good athletes and everyone is always fresh due to their depth. Can not let them start running on us. Need the bench guys to bring good energy to keep up.
- They play fast but can get sloppy at times, need to force turnovers when they get loose with the ball or make risky passes.
- Centers are pretty weak on low blocks, below average 1 on 1 defenders, Juju and DQ can still dominate these guys. I would expect them to bring a lot of doubles/trap the post when we get it down there.
