Story Time: Titled: PLEASE LEAVE MY CHILD.
Early morning in the village of UMUDINKA, cock crows and birds chipping. Nna anyi IGWENAGU comes out of his hut with chewing stick in his mouth brushing his teeth and stretching his body. At the same time here comes Mmasi his wife, coming back from the stream with a pot of water on her head.
IGWENAGU:(clears his throat) Mmasi my wife, welcome. You have already gone to fetch water this early morning?
MMASI:(Breathing heavily) Yes oo my husband. Good morning Sir. I said let me rush before the early morning sun start coming out.
IGWENAGU: (spitting out) You have done well Ezigbo . So where is Ositadimma, is he still at the stream ?
MMASI:( retorted) Nooo Nna anyi, Osita is still sleeping inside.
IGWENAGU:( very infuriated): What do you mean that Osita is still sleeping by this time of the morning ? His mates are busy helping their family in doing chores and even going to the farm but he is still in bed by this time. Where is that boy?(Angrily he rushed inside Ositadimmas hurt).
MMASI:(rushed after him) Nna anyi please take it easy. He is still a child.
IGWENAGU:(shouting ) Get out of that bed Ositadimma. Your mates are busy with work but you are busy with sleep. Who told you that there is food for a lazy man?( chasing Ositadimma out of the room)
OSITADIMMA(grudgingly and robbing his eyes came out) ohhhh Papa, why can’t you allow me to enjoy my sleep in peace? You are just disturbing me papa.
(He goes behind his mother to hide while murmuring)
MMASI:(holding her husband’s hand) Nna anyi can’t you see he is just a child. When he grows , he will learn to do all those things.
IGWENAGU:(Very angry) Do you say he is a child Mmasi? You said when he grows but I don’t know where he will grow to again. But I will tell you this, the way you train a child is the way he will grow.
MMASI: (shielding Ositadimma) Please leave my child Nna anyi. He will change when he come of age.
IGWENAGU:( amazed and pained) : You are spoiling my only son right before my very eyes Mmasi but I have one thing to tell you. This ant infested firewood you are fetching will soon invite lizards to your home. Do not come crying to me when it will happen.
MMASI:(murmuring) eehhh Nna anyi , I will not cry or cry to you for there will be no such thing.
